COURSE FACULTY
We are honoured to welcome Dr John L. Dornhoffer, an internationally renowned neurotologist recognized worldwide for his expertise in the management of chronic ear diseases and advanced otologic surgery.
This represents a rare and valuable opportunity to learn directly from him through live demonstrations, interactive discussions, and personalized guidance during dissection sessions.
Expert local faculty with also join us for the course, providing close supervision with a high faculty to participant ratio, maximising learning opportunities.

COURSE OVERVIEW
This intensive 2-day Temporal Bone Surgery and Hearing Implant Course is designed to cater to participants across all levels of expertise — from surgical trainees to experienced otologic surgeons seeking to refine and enhance their technical skills.
The programme emphasises immersive, hands-on cadaveric dissection complemented by expert-led demonstrations. With a strong focus on practical learning, participants will benefit from close supervision and personalised guidance from distinguished local and overseas faculty.
Each dissection station is equipped with microscope video output, allowing real-time feedback, detailed instruction, and enhanced visual learning throughout the course.
OBJECTIVES
The course aims to:
-
provide structured, step-by-step guidance in temporal bone dissection
-
enhance anatomical understanding of the temporal bone and middle ear structures
-
strengthen microsurgical techniques in otologic surgery
-
familiarise participants with contemporary hearing implant systems and ossicular reconstruction options
-
familiarise participants with operative strategies in managing chronic ear disease
-
improve operative confidence through supervised hands-on practice
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
-
demonstrate safe and systematic temporal bone dissection techniques
-
identify key anatomical landmarks and critical structures
-
perform common otologic surgical approaches under microscopic guidance
-
apply appropriate drilling techniques using high-speed otologic drills
-
understand the indications and handling of cochlear implants (CI), bone conduction implants (BCI), and ossicular prostheses (TORP, PORP, stapes pistons)
-
gain deeper understanding into cochlear anatomy via cochlear drillout and dissection
-
familiarise with various operative techniques in managing chronic ear disease (e.g. tympanoplasty, mastoidectomies, mastoid obliteration)
-
performed translabyrinthine IAC dissection
-
integrate graft materials effectively in otologic procedures
SUITABLE FOR
-
ENT residents and trainees
-
Otology and neurotology fellows
-
Practising ENT surgeons seeking skills refinement
-
Surgeons interested in hearing implant surgery
-
International participants seeking structured cadaveric dissection training
PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS
The program offers maximum hands-on cadaveric dissection time following expert-led demonstrations. Each station is equipped with microscope video output, enabling close supervision, real-time feedback, and detailed teaching by our distinguished local and overseas faculty.
Participants will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, including:
-
High-speed otologic drills
-
Biodesign graft materials
-
Hearing implants (Cochlear Implants (CI), Bone Conduction Implants (BCI))
-
